THIS IS OUR COUNTRY

More than 21% of the productivity in Latisana regards the agricultural activity: our country is characterized by an entrepreneurship that, although small, it is valuable. There are many farms and wineries which yield a wide selection of products: cold cuts, cheese, high quality wine, fruits and vegetables.
Walking along the countryside, it is recommended to have a break at these farms, mainly characterized by a familiar management, which are in contact with Nature and animals. Tourist here can realize that the hard work of the land permits the gaining of profits.
Moreover visitors have the possibility to admire orchards, vegetable gardens cultivated respecting both natural cycles and the biorhythm of the plants and in which different working methods with a low environmental impact are adopted, the honey harvesting, the cheese production and so on. The owners are glad to welcome people offering a glass of wine and a tasting of some typical local products. Besides, people can also buy genuine and top quality products directly at farm stores.

Latisana is the mother of "Friuli Latisana" D.O.C. (Protected Designation of Origin)

The most famous agricultural activity in Latisana is the winery one, protected since 1975 by the Protected Designation of Origin "Friuli Latisana".The production area of the D.O.C. wine Friuli-Latisana is the southern part of the province of Udine and it consists of a narrow territory which goes from the coasts of the Adriatic littoral zone to the hinterland for about 30 km. It is formed by clay soil, slime and sand transported by the rivers Stella and Tagliamento. To increase its value, in 2002 a cultural wine-and-food tour was created, called "Vino e Sapori", which includes the municipalities of Latisana, Palazzolo dello Stella and Precenicco. The tour allow tourists to discover the rural world of Latisana and its characteristics: from farming to harvest, from cultivation to tasting. This initiative is a good occasion to convey the typical agricultural products of the land, which can also be discovered by bicycle.
