parco_scritta

The first European single-theme park dedicated to parrots

The Parrots Park is 3 km far from the historic centre of Latisana. Tucked in the zone between the two bends of the river Tagliamento, it covers an area of 60.000 m2 and hosts about 300 species, whose 40% are dying species. Each species has different forms and dimensions and some specimen are unique in the world. Inside the park there are 8 pavilions, divided according to the natural geographical zones of origin (Indo-oceanic, Afro-Asiatic and American), in which the environmental conditions and the habitats of each species are reproduced faithfully.

The principal aim of the park is the scientific study of the parrots world through researches on their diseases and on their behaviour. It is aimed at the preservation of the different species and at the breed in captivity. The collaboration with the University of Turin and the University of Camerino is from this point of view essential.

The didactic part is complementary to the research: guided tours and play laboratories give visitors the possibility to know these fascinating animals and teach the new generations the respect for the environment and the nature. During guided tours the public will have the possibility to meet the white parrot Ariel, to see the free fly of the yellow-blue Ara or to visit the nursery of the park, where you can see the hatching of the eggs or the weaning or admire the new-born parrots.

Inside the park you can also find an Auditorium for conferences and meetings, a huge refreshment area and numerous picnic areas.
