Twinning with Reichenau an der Rax

The town of Latisana started in 2005 a partnership programme with the Austrian city of Reichenau an der Rax. Goal of this proposal is to motivate the socio-cultural exchanges among citizens of different countries by creating a friendly relationship and a common sense of cultural and historical belonging. That's why on 5th June 2005 a municipal delegation from Latisana went to the Austrian city where, during a solemn ceremony, Micaela Sette, mayor of Latisana, and Hans Ledolter, mayor of Reichenau signed the Paper of Twinning, a sort of parchment which ratifies the friendship of two cities.

The pact was then ratified also on 15th September of the same year during a ceremony which took place in Latisana at Odeon theatre. The ceremony was followed by the representatives of the two cities and the community of Latisana. The exchange occasions has been numerous: for example, every year in December our Austrian friends send us a big Christmas tree which is then positioned in Piazza Indipendenza and lightened by many lights. And further, a delegation of theirs participates to our most important event, Settembre DOC.

The municipal administration created the "Twinning Committee" to increase and create new occasions to share with our Austrian partners. The committee was established on 8th November 2007 to represent the citizens of Latisana whenever an event has to be organized.
